This year we sponsored Holly Owers with her sustainable project: Reflexed.
“Reflexed is a sustainable sea swimming lifestyle collection perfectly matched to swimmers’ needs and specifically designed to enhance the experience, safety and afterglow of this life-affirming sport.
Sustainability is important for sea swimmers, with concerns about sewage, the use of fossil-based textiles for neoprene wetsuits and accessories, and plastic pollution including pervasive micro plastics, some of which are shed from the textiles they wear. This is paradoxical for an activity where a significant motivation is to immerse in a fresh, pollution free environment. This project incorporates the use of textiles from recovered sea wastes, taking plastics from the sea for use in the sea, and the use of biodegradable materials such as wool and mussel shell 3D printing filament.
In essence, my collection reflects our need to find balance in life and appreciate it for what we have. ”
